Sunday Fun Day - Ruger 10/22 and the Creepy Circus

Sunday Fun Day posts will be about something fun or interesting that I did or saw during the week. I was planning on doing a post about our first shooting trip with our new rifle but I ended up with something even better in my opinion ...

For Christmas I bought Hubby a Ruger 10/22. The only other rifle I've ever shot has been a Mauser a handful of years back. Out where we live you can go shooting almost anywhere, it's all desert and mostly military so it's not a strange thing to do. We went with our friends from New Year's Eve and offroaded out to our local shooting spot.

With 300 rounds of ammo in hand we loaded up the clip and started shooting at the makeshift targets tucked into the hills. We only ended up going through about 150 rounds between the 4 of us. I had never shot a 10/22 and was surprised it was about the same as shooting a high powered BB gun. Even the babies didn't need ear protection.

While the boys traded of shooting clips, us girls went around picking up spend casings that could potentially be reloaded. I think our aim was for .45s and 9mm.
Our friend got the idea to try and shoot a quarter. He finally got it but it didn't go all the way through. I guess if you had a quarter in your shirt pocket and were shot from that distance it could stop a bullet!
We packed up and headed out once it started to get dark but on the way home we took a detour when we saw waaaaay out in the dirt there appeared to be a circus. We could see the red and white stripes and the tents and big semi trailers. We went to investigate and that's when things go interesting.

We never heard any news of a circus coming to town and even if it was this was too far outside of the main town area for them to even be waiting to set up.
Creepy Circus out in the distance
As we pulled up we passed the Human Cannon, the motorcycle Wheel of Death trailer, and the trailer advertising circus showgirls. We got to the end where they had made camp and didn't see anyone or anything going on so we tried to turn around but the truck got stuck in the dirt. And just like out of a creepy circus horror movie people slowly started appearing in the camp walking towards us. We kept trying to get out but we were in sand so our friend had to get out and I think he adjusted the suspension or something, I'm not sure. But they carnies that came out of nowhere were completely covered head to toe with black masks over their faces. One of them came up to our friend and started talking to him. I thought we were doomed. We were going to be killed by the creepy circus people in the middle of the desert. All I could think was "at least we have a gun!" One of the guys started talking and was like you guys aren't stuck in that truck are you? He had a weird accent. Not sure what kind, European most likely, I think we decided it was like Irish/Russian. He was asked what they were doing here and what kind of attractions they had and he told us they were just making camp there hoping maybe they could get a gig in town, and that they had "everything you could ever imagine" (in that creepy circus voice).

In the end, we did get out alive, but it was really freaky when they started coming out of nowhere walking eerily slow towards us as we were stuck trying to get out of the sand.
